Built on top of one of the most comprehensive road network models in the industry, Maptuit’s broad range of services combine performance and quality.

Whether you are a retailer that wants to offer customers a map to the nearest location of one of your stores, or you want to integrate your asset tracking service with an online map that has street-level coverage of Mexico, or you want to help your customers get directions to their favorite restaurant - MapServ can help you. With MapServ, you can quickly and cost-effectively integrate a map rendering web service into your existing web application and give your customers the maps and directions they need.

BS36082MapServ offers extensive coverage of North American including Mexico, Canada and the United States.Using MapServ's XML-based interface, you can quickly integrate powerful address matching, mapping, routing, and true-cost proximity searching capabilities into your application. Built on top of one of the most comprehensive road network models in the industry, Maptuit's broad range of services combine performance and quality.

The following capabilities are exposed through the MapServ interface:

  • Geocoding
  • Reverse Geocoding
  • Mapping
  • Routing
  • Directions
  • Route Sequencing
  • Points of Interest

Geocoding

Maptuit's address matching technology uses any combination of street address, intersection, city name, region name, postal information, or place name to determine the geographic coordinates of a location.

MapServ offers a full-text search capability that makes it very easy to look up all points of interest that match a specific pattern as illustrated below.

Reverse Geocoding

MapServ's reverse geocoder can take a coordinate and return with the closest street address. Hints can be provided to 'steer' the algorithm towards certain classes of roads. For instance, when reverse geocoding a coordinate captured in a densely populated neighborhood, the nearest major street may be more useful than the name of a side street or alley way.

Mapping

MapServ can be configured on the fly to provide raster images of varying color depth, from black and white to full color.Map content is organized as a set of layers.Layers, such as land use and building outlines, can be included or excluded as required.Labels are anti-aliased and dynamically placed for maximum legibility.

Routing

Leveraging Maptuit's patented routing algorithms, MapServ can find the optimal way to travel for any given mode of transport and supports pedestrians, passenger cars, and transport vehicles. Exceptions, including one-way streets, turn restrictions, underpass clearances, bridge loading, and the Truck network (US State and Federal legislation, both prohibitions and restrictions) are respected. Individual customers can place additional restrictions on the road network to meet their specific needs.

Directions

Maptuit's directions are easy to follow. The directions system minimizes the number of steps and the number of road name changes. Directions are also formatted to meet the needs of the driver. Professional drivers prefer terse and concise directions while consumers prefer each direction step to be fully spelt out.

MapServ's directions are independent of access device or language. For example, to address the limitations of a WAP phone, direction steps are formatted as separate pages in a stack. Truck-load carriers accessing directions over a satellite link need concise directions, including all exit numbers, in a small footprint to minimize communication costs. Users of web-based applications, who have more bandwidth and higher resolution screens at their disposal can interact with the unique online directions, clicking on each leg of a trip to get specific information.

Route Sequencing

MapServ's route sequencing technology can calculate the optimal way to visit multiple locations, given a set of constraints. Consider a delivery company that needs to visit 12 locations. What's the best order to visit those destinations while traveling the least distance? What's the best order given that a number of customers need to be visited at specific times?

Maptuit's patent-pending technology calculates the optimal order, including door-to-door directions to multiple destinations with sub-second response. Temporal constraints, including variable width time windows are supported.

Points of Interest

MapServ's point of interest database is used to store customer data. Information in the database is spatially indexed for rapid proximity searching. Each point-of-interest is categorized by keywords. Queries are comprised of keywords and Boolean expressions. Each customer has control over how information is structured, managed and queried. A web-based configuration system enables customers to edit the information remotely.
